DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACEUTICS
Objective:

The objective of the Pharmaceutics Department is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, techniques, and applications involved in the development and formulation of pharmaceutical dosage forms. This discipline is crucial for ensuring that medicines are prepared in a way that maximizes their therapeutic effectiveness, safety, and stability. Some of the key objectives of the Pharmaceutics Department include:

  1. Understanding Drug Formulation: To study how drugs are transformed into various dosage forms such as tablets, capsules, injections, ointments, and others. This includes understanding about excipients.
  2. Dosage Form Design: This involves the study of various methods used in the production of dosage forms, including solid, liquid, semi-solid, and injectable forms.
  3. Pharmaceutical Technology: To introduce students to the processes and machinery used in the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products, including techniques like granulation, compression, coating, and sterile processing.
  4. Drug Release and Bioavailability: To examine how drugs are released from dosage forms and absorbed by the body, with an emphasis on improving bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy.
  5. Pharmaceutical Dosage Form Evaluation: To develop skills for evaluation of physical, chemical, and biological properties of pharmaceutical formulations to ensure they meet required standards of quality, safety, and efficacy.
  6. Regulatory and Quality Control: To understand the role of regulatory agencies in ensuring the safety, efficacy, and quality of pharmaceutical products. This includes the study of guidelines for good manufacturing practices, quality control tests, and product validation.
  7. Pharmaceutical Stability: To study the factors that affect the stability of drugs, such as temperature, light, moisture, and packaging, and how to mitigate these factors to prolong shelf life.
